Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons warm water
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 3 tablespoons canola oil
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for topping)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic salt (for topping)
  • 1 tablespoon grated parmesan cheese (for topping)
  • Marinara sauce (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl or stand mixer, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit until foamy.
  2. Mix in salt, oil, and two cups of flour. Gradually add remaining flour until a soft dough forms. Knead until smooth and place in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise for one hour.
  3. After rising, punch down the dough and divide it into 16 pieces. Roll each piece into a 12-inch rope and shape into bones by cutting slits and twisting.
  4. Place on a greased baking sheet, cover, and let rise again for about 45 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) during the last few minutes of rising. Bake for 12-14 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic salt and parmesan cheese while warm.
