  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/4 cup low sodium or gluten-free soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped yellow onion
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 2 garlic cloves (crushed)
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds (plus more for topping)

Instructions

  1. Place chicken breasts in a Ziploc bag and pound to an even thickness of about ½ inch.
  2. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, apple sauce, onion, sesame oil, ginger, brown sugar, garlic, and optional red pepper flakes.
  3. Reserve ¼ cup marinade; pour remaining marinade into the bag with chicken. Seal and refrigerate for at least one hour.
  4. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Grill chicken for 2-3 minutes per side until fully cooked, using reserved marinade for basting.
