  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (8 Tbsp; 113g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup (200g) packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup (130g) chopped pecans
  • 2 Tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter for icing
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) pure maple syrup for icing
  • 1 cup (112g) sifted confectioners’ sugar for icing
  • Pinch salt for icing

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  2. In a stand mixer or using a hand mixer, cream softened butter and brown sugar until smooth. Add the egg and mix until combined.
  3. Incorporate maple syrup, vanilla extract, and maple extract; blend well.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Fold in chopped pecans.
  5. Cover dough and refrigerate for 2 hours (or up to 3 days).
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Roll dough into balls (about 1.5 tablespoons each) and place on baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 12-13 minutes until edges are lightly browned; cool on baking sheets before transferring to wire racks.
  9. For icing: melt butter and maple syrup in a saucepan, whisk in powdered sugar, then drizzle over cooled cookies.
